Simplifying the Store – simple is better than slick.


If you’ve come to the store in the recent past, you’ve probably noticed that our layout has changed a lot. We went from very basic to slick, and now we are back to simple – with a few additions.

What we found with the ultra slick layout, was that it just confused people. It looked great, but the layout got in the way of making the site usable and I got constant messages from people try to find courses. The lesson in this, is to always lean towards simple layouts and leave the high-end design to concept sites.

Forgetting about Usability of a Website


In this recent update of, we concentrated on making the website look really slick. I think it has that 2012 uber-nerd feel to it. But … I also believe it fails my first test of a website: the emotional snapshot.

What is the emotional snapshot?

It is that first impression you get when you hit a site …. it is not what you think, but rather what you feel instantly. For me, the number one thing, is that the visitor feels relaxed. If they feel anxious, overwhelmed or confused … you have a problem.

… When I look at the new killerVideoStore website, I feel anxious … almost attacked by the design. ¬†We are currently working on smoothing things out. I will blog about this as we make progress.
